The Silent Selves Story

The nature of the human spirit is rarely a single layer. In this series, each artwork pairs the front of a fallen leaf—the Persona—with its reverse, the Essence. Together, they reveal that who we are is found not in either side alone, but in the harmony between what we show the world and what we keep inside.

When these two sides meet, the image begins to glow. Textures become richer and the story feels more complete. This overlap is where we truly begin to understand ourselves and others; it is where the most meaningful connections in our relationships are found.

To honour this quiet complexity, each work is rendered as a giclée print on Ilford Cotton Rag Textured paper. I chose this archival paper for its deep, matte finish and tactile grain, which mirrors the organic vulnerability and "weathered" nature of the leaves themselves.

Set against a muted backdrop, Silent Selves is a study in slow looking. Through themes of character, resilience, and legacy, the collection suggests that wholeness isn’t found in perfection, but in accepting the beautifully layered nature of being human. As you spend time with these images, my hope is that you recognise something of your own story: not in the dramatic moments, but in the subtle, quiet ones that shape who we ultimately become.
