At first, colour and irregular tonal patches are more prominent in Lineage than the leaf's veins. On closer inspection, a fine network can be seen continuing beneath those variations and holding the form together.

I was thinking about genetic inheritance: how each of us is the product of ancestral lines reaching back over many generations, not all equally visible in us. The mingled colours suggest this varied inheritance, while the veins provide a common foundation beneath it.

Lineage begins the Legacy triptych in Silent Selves, followed by Constitution and Status. It considers what comes before us; the later works move through what we become and how that is eventually recognised by others.

Edition Details

Print– Limited edition of 12, plus 2 Artist Proofs retained by the artist. 70 × 85 cm overall (27.6 × 33.5 in), with a 60 × 75 cm image area (23.6 × 29.5 in) and a 5 cm (2 in) white border.

Quality –Archival giclée print on museum-grade Ilford Cotton Rag Textured paper.
